Creative Workshops
Our creative writing workshops are led by experienced, published authors who bring the power of words to life. Through the art of spoken word and poetry, we inspire students to express their ideas, emotions, and experiences creatively and confidently. Each workshop is tailored to the appropriate Key Stage, supporting learning objectives from the National Curriculum in English and enhancing literacy, communication, and creative thinking skills.
Key Stage 2
At this stage, we focus on nurturing imagination and helping pupils develop their own voice through poetry and storytelling. Activities are designed to meet curriculum goals by:
- Encouraging pupils to plan, draft, and edit their own creative writing pieces.
- Developing understanding of figurative language, rhythm, and rhyme.
- Expanding vocabulary and promoting the confident use of descriptive techniques.
- Building the ability to read aloud and perform with expression and clarity.
Our workshops help pupils explore themes such as identity, emotions, and community, while fostering a love for language and self-expression.
Key Stage 3
In Key Stage 3, students are encouraged to deepen their understanding of poetry as both a written and spoken art form. We link directly to curriculum aims by:
- Exploring how language, structure, and form contribute to meaning.
- Encouraging analysis of poets’ choices and how these can influence their own writing.
- Introducing elements of spoken word performance, helping students develop confidence in oral communication.
- Strengthening critical thinking through peer feedback and reflection on their creative process.
By connecting literature study with creative expression, students discover how poetry can be both powerful and personal.
Key Stage 4
At Key Stage 4, our workshops support GCSE English Literature and Language objectives, enhancing both analytical and creative writing skills. Sessions focus on:
- Developing sophisticated use of language, tone, and imagery.
- Analysing how poets use structure and techniques to convey themes and emotions.
- Crafting original poems inspired by set texts or contemporary issues.
- Building performance skills through spoken word presentations, developing confidence and communication for exam and life skills.
Students leave with a stronger grasp of poetic technique and a deeper appreciation of how words can influence, empower, and inspire.
